TOT Play Group

w    Nurturing our children…it is one of the most important things that we can do.  Parents’ attention, love and care determine how a child grows up and ultimately the way they choose to parent their own children.

Knowing this the YWCA developed and now offers themed classes that teach preschool skills using books and stories, crafts, activities, and movement and rhythm exercises.  These weekly classes also offer parent’s tips on the developmental stages and other supportive parenting practices.   The on-going classes will consist of six-week themed sessions that will be fun for you and your little one.

The classes are offered on Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for children ages 2 ½ to 4 years of age plus a parent or guardian at the YWCA.  The cost is $6.00 per class, with supporting YWCA members receiving a 25% discount. Participants must call to register.

This program is made possible through funding from Ohio Children’s Trust Fund and is facilitated by the Solace Center.

TESTIMONIAL

Dear Director,

My experience with the Mom and Tot class at YWCA of Warren was a worthwhile experience. Being a mother of twins, I'm always looking for a little help in keeping my children on track. At home they know their ABC's, 123's, colors, shapes, animals, etc., but when it comes to being around others, they become very shy and don't express themselves well.

Because the twins will be heading off to preschool soon I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to help them learn from others and interact with other children their age.

Each class revolves around a theme, like colors and animals. The teacher would begin class with a theme related story, and then children would gather around a table for a theme craft project.

The children learned to use all different kinds of materials, such as crayons, markers, paints, construction paper, glue sticks, etc. After the craft, the children would go in to a playroom where they would play with balls, crawl through a tunnel, play with musical instruments, etc.

I want to thank YWCA for creating this class, because it has helped my twins greatly. They have become more social, they can make choices, focus better, they can entertain themselves, and they play nicer with each other. I would suggest this class to any mother with a toddler, who needs to get ready for preschool.

Thank you.
